Abiezer

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Manasseh · H0044H
Old Testament

Abiezer, son of Hammolecheth, was a descendant of Manasseh and is mentioned in the genealogy of the tribe.

Abiezer was a son of Hammolecheth, sister of Gilead, and a descendant of Manasseh (1 Chronicles 7:18). He is listed among the Manassite clans that settled the Transjordanian and Cisjordanian regions allotted to that tribe. A separate Abiezer of the clan of Manasseh appears in Judges 6 as the ancestral clan of Gideon, from Ophrah; the Abiezrites are notable for the altar of Baal that Gideon's father Joash maintained. The name Abiezer, meaning 'my father is help,' was shared by several men in the Old Testament, reflecting its honorific character.
