Ahasbai

Ahasbai the Maachathite was the father of Eliphelet, one of the warriors listed among David's thirty mighty men (2 Samuel 23:34). The Maachathites were associated with the territory of Abel-beth-maacah in northern Israel, near the border with Aram. His son Eliphelet's presence among David's elite warriors indicates that David's fighting force drew from diverse geographic backgrounds, including non-Israelite or semi-Israelite border communities. Ahasbai himself is known only through his son's military distinction and appears in no other biblical passage.
