Ahoah

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Benjamin · H0265
Old Testament

The Ahohites, descendants of Ahoah of Benjamin, were a clan that included some of David's mighty men, such as Eleazar and Zalmon.

Ahoah was a son of Bela and a grandson of Benjamin, and the ancestral figure from whom the Ahohites took their name (1 Chronicles 8:4). Several of David's most celebrated warriors were identified as Ahohites—including Eleazar son of Dodo, one of the three greatest champions, who held his position in a barley field and struck down the Philistines until his hand cramped onto his sword (2 Samuel 23:9–10; 1 Chronicles 11:12), and Ilai the Ahohite (1 Chronicles 11:29). The Ahohite warriors thus formed a notable fighting tradition within the tribe of Benjamin.
