Asahel was a Levite sent by Jehoshaphat to teach the Book of the Law in Judah (2Ch.17.8).

Asahel was a Levite teacher sent out by King Jehoshaphat of Judah along with priests and other Levites to teach the Book of the Law throughout the cities of Judah (2 Chronicles 17:8). This educational mission represented one of Jehoshaphat's most significant reforms, establishing a circuit of itinerant teachers to instruct the population in Torah. A more famous Asahel is the youngest brother of Joab and Abishai, David's nephews, who was known for running 'as fleet-footed as a wild gazelle' (2 Samuel 2:18) and was killed by Abner during the battle of Gibeon (2 Samuel 2:18–23). The Levite Asahel is a distinct individual.
