Dedan was a grandson of Cush and a son of Raamah.
Dedan was a grandson of Cush through Raamah, son of Ham (Genesis 10:7; 1 Chronicles 1:9). He is associated with an ancient Arabian trading people known from inscriptions found at the oasis of Dedan (modern al-'Ula) in northwestern Arabia. Dedan appears in various prophetic oracles (Isaiah 21:13; Jeremiah 25:23; Ezekiel 25:13; 27:20) as a trading nation known for fine textiles and riding equipment, reflecting the region's historical role as a commercial crossroads on the incense route.
