Old Testament

Jaare-oregim (or Jair) was the father of Elhanan, who killed Lahmi, the brother of Goliath the Gittite.

Jaare-oregim, also called Jair in 2 Samuel 21:19, was a Bethlehemite and the father of Elhanan, who killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite (1 Chronicles 20:5; 2 Samuel 21:19). The parallel accounts in Samuel and Chronicles present some textual variation, with Samuel's version potentially reflecting a scribal error involving the name of the warrior and his opponent. Jaare-oregim represents the generation of Israelite warriors in David's time who continued the tradition of defeating Philistine champions.
