Kadmiel

Old Testament

Kadmiel was a Levite who returned from Babylonian exile and played a significant role in the rebuilding of the temple and the spiritual renewal of the people.

Kadmiel was the ancestor of a priestly or Levitical family who returned with Zerubbabel from Babylonian exile, with his clan numbering seventy-four members (Ezra 2:40; Nehemiah 7:43). He and his sons are mentioned repeatedly in Nehemiah as among the Levites who led the people in worship, helped Ezra read the Law, and sealed the covenant of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 9:4–5; 10:9). Kadmiel represents one of the key Levitical families that provided liturgical and administrative leadership for the restored post-exilic community.
