Maasai, also known as Amashsai, was a priest who served during the time of Nehemiah.
Maasai (also called Amashsai in 1 Chronicles 9:12) was a priest who settled in Jerusalem in the post-exilic period, listed among those who took up residence in the holy city after the return from Babylon (Nehemiah 11:13). The variant name Amashsai in Chronicles likely reflects a scribal difference in transmission of the same name. His genealogy traces back through the priestly line, and he is included in the lists recording the reconstitution of the Jerusalem priestly community.
