Old Testament

Maher-shalal-hash-baz, meaning "swift is booty, speedy is prey," was the symbolic name given to Isaiah's son.

Maher-shalal-hash-baz, meaning 'quick to the plunder, swift to the spoil,' was the symbolic name Isaiah gave to his son at God's direction as a prophetic sign against the coalition of Israel and Syria threatening Judah (Isaiah 8:1–4). Before the child could say 'my father' or 'my mother,' the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria would be carried away by Assyria—a prediction fulfilled when Assyria conquered both capitals within a few years. His name is the longest personal name in the Bible and encapsulates one of Isaiah's most precise predictive prophecies.
