Rufus

> · G4504G

Rufus was the son of Simon of Cyrene, who was compelled to carry Jesus' cross on the way to His crucifixion.

Rufus was a son of Simon of Cyrene, the man compelled to carry Jesus's cross, and is mentioned in Mark 15:21 as a figure apparently known to Mark's Roman audience. Paul also greeted a 'Rufus, chosen in the Lord' in Romans 16:13, describing his mother as 'a mother to me as well,' though whether this is the same individual remains debated among scholars. His inclusion in these texts suggests he was a prominent member of the early Christian community.
