Essential for life and rich with spiritual meaning throughout Scripture. God's Spirit hovered over the waters at creation (Genesis 1:2). God provided water from a rock in the wilderness (Exodus 17:6). Jesus offered the Samaritan woman 'living water' (John 4:10-14) and cried out, 'Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink' (John 7:37). Baptism uses water to symbolize cleansing, death, and new life (Romans 6:3-4). Ezekiel 36:25 promises, 'I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.' Revelation 22:17 extends the invitation: 'Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.'
