Abiud

Exile Tribe of Judah · G0010
New Testament

Abiud was the son of Zerubbabel and is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Matthew.

Abiud was a son of Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah who led the first return of exiles from Babylon, and is named in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew 1:13. He is also attested in 1 Chronicles 3:19 in the list of Zerubbabel's descendants. As father of Eliakim, Abiud forms part of the royal Davidic lineage during the post-exilic period, a time when the Davidic dynasty no longer ruled but its genealogical continuity was carefully preserved. Matthew's inclusion of him signals the unbroken descent from David to Jesus through the generations after the exile.
