Areli

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Gad · H0692
Old Testament

Areli, a son of Gad, is mentioned in the genealogy of Jacob and the census of the Israelites in the wilderness.

Areli was a son of Gad and grandson of Jacob, listed among the seventy descendants of Jacob who entered Egypt with him (Genesis 46:16). He is also listed in the second Mosaic census as the ancestor of the Arelite clan (Numbers 26:17). As a founding son of the tribe of Gad, Areli is one of seven sons whose descendants settled the Transjordanian territory allocated to Gad—the region east of the Jordan between the Jabbok and Arnon rivers. Gad's territory included the heartland of Gilead and its warriors were renowned for their military ability (1 Chronicles 5:18; 12:8).
