Ashhur

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Judah · H0806
Old Testament

Ashhur, a descendant of Judah through Hezron, was the father (ie founder) of Tekoa (1Ch.2.24; 4:5).

Ashhur, son of Hezron (born to his wife Abiah after Hezron's death) or son of Caleb, is described as the 'father' (i.e., founder) of Tekoa, a town in the hill country of Judah about ten miles south of Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 2:24; 4:5–7). He had two wives, Helah and Naarah, and several sons who became the clan leaders of the Tekoa region. Tekoa later became famous as the hometown of the prophet Amos and as the place from which the wise woman summoned by Joab came to advise David about Absalom (2 Samuel 14:2). Ashhur's role as Tekoa's founder connects him to a historically significant location in Judah.
