Cheran

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Edom · H3763
Old Testament

Cheran was a son of Dishon and a descendant of Esau.

Cheran was a son of Dishon, a Horite chief descended from Seir, listed in the genealogy of Esau's Edomite family (Genesis 36:26; 1 Chronicles 1:41). The Horites were the pre-Edomite inhabitants of the region of Seir whom Esau's descendants displaced, much as the Israelites displaced the Canaanites. Cheran's genealogical position preserves the memory of these ancient inhabitants of the land that became Edom.
