Old Testament

The daughter of Sanballat the Horonite was married to a grandson of the high priest Eliashib.

The daughter of Sanballat the Horonite, one of Nehemiah's principal opponents, is mentioned in Nehemiah 13:28 as the wife of a son of Joiada, grandson of the high priest Eliashib. Nehemiah drove this unnamed man away from Jerusalem because of this intermarriage, which Nehemiah viewed as a serious defilement of the priesthood and a compromise of the covenant community's separation from foreign influence. Josephus identifies her as the wife of Manasseh and connects the episode to the founding of the Samaritan temple on Mount Gerizim.
