Old Testament

Eshtemoa (or Eshtemoh), a Levitical city in Judah, was the home of several individuals and received spoils from David's victory over the Amalekites.

Eshtemoa was a Maachathite from the tribe of Judah, recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:17–19 as a descendant of Ezrah, and his name is preserved in the Judahite clan register of the period before the monarchy. He is also associated with a Levitical city of the same name in the hill country of Judah (Joshua 21:14), suggesting that his clan gave its name to the town. David sent a share of the spoil from his victory over the Amalekites to Eshtemoa and its elders (1 Samuel 30:28), reflecting the loyalty of this Judahite community to David during his years at Ziklag.
