Eve

Eve is the first woman in the biblical narrative, formed by God from Adam's rib as a 'helper fit for him' (Genesis 2:18–22). Her name, meaning 'living' or 'life-giver,' is explained in Genesis 3:20 because she is 'the mother of all living.' Deceived by the serpent, she ate the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and gave some to Adam, an act that resulted in the curse and expulsion from Eden (Genesis 3:1–24). Eve is regarded in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions as the ancestral mother of all humanity, and her encounter with the serpent is foundational to biblical theology concerning the origin of human sin.
