Ithamar was the fourth and youngest son of Aaron, who served as a priest alongside his brothers Nadab, Abihu, and Eleazar.
Ithamar was the fourth son of Aaron and Elisheba, consecrated alongside his brothers Nadab, Abihu, and Eleazar as one of the first priests of Israel (Exodus 6:23; 28:1). After the deaths of Nadab and Abihu for offering unauthorized fire (Leviticus 10:1–2), and with Eleazar serving as high priest, Ithamar supervised the Gershonite and Merarite Levites and their transportation duties (Numbers 4:28, 33). His priestly line continued in Israel; Eli the high priest was a descendant of Ithamar (1 Kings 2:27), and the priestly family of Ithamar is listed among the post-exilic returnees (Ezra 8:2).
