Jabal

Jabal was the son of Lamech and Adah in the antediluvian genealogy of Cain's line (Genesis 4:20). He is identified as 'the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock,' making him the progenitor of the pastoral way of life in the biblical tradition. His brothers were Jubal, the father of musicians, and Tubal-cain, the father of metalworkers, together representing the biblical account of the origins of civilization's major cultural institutions. These figures in Cain's line are often read as etiological ancestors who explain the origins of human cultural achievements before the flood.
