Old Testament

Jedaiah was the head of the second priestly division during King David's reign and his descendants returned from the Babylonian exile.

Jedaiah was the head of the second priestly division established by King David for temple service (1 Chronicles 24:7). The priestly family of Jedaiah was prominent in both the pre-exilic and post-exilic periods: descendants bearing this name appear among the priests who returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:36; Nehemiah 7:39; 12:6–7) and among those who helped repair the walls of Jerusalem under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 3:10). The Jedaiah who signed Nehemiah's covenant (Nehemiah 10:21) represents the continuation of this priestly family through the restoration period.
