Jether was a son of Jada, a descendant of Judah, mentioned in the genealogy of the tribe of Judah in 1 Chronicles.
Jether was Gideon's firstborn son, commanded by his father to execute the captured Midianite kings Zebah and Zalmunna (Judges 8:20). Though Gideon intended the act to honor his son, Jether was afraid and did not draw his sword, so Gideon himself killed the kings. This episode highlights the courage expected of warriors in ancient Israel and the gravity of executing judgment against enemy kings.
