Lot
Lot, the nephew of Abraham, was rescued from Sodom before its destruction.
Lot was the nephew of Abraham who accompanied him from Haran to Canaan and then to Egypt (Genesis 12–13). When their combined livestock made the land insufficient for both, Abraham generously allowed Lot to choose his territory first; Lot chose the well-watered Jordan plain and settled near Sodom. He was rescued by Abraham after being captured in the war of the four kings against five (Genesis 14). When Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed for their wickedness, two angels led Lot and his family out; his wife, looking back against the command, became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26). Jesus invoked Lot's wife as a warning about looking back (Luke 17:32), while Peter calls Lot 'a righteous man' tormented by the wickedness around him (2 Peter 2:7–8).
