Magdiel was an Edomite chief, a descendant of Esau, the son of Isaac.
Magdiel was one of the chiefs (or clans) of Edom, a descendant of Esau listed in the roster of Edomite tribal leaders in Genesis 36:43 and 1 Chronicles 1:54. The Edomite chiefs are generally understood to represent territorial rulers in the region of Seir and the Arabah. Magdiel appears at the end of this list alongside Iram and is known only from these genealogical registers.
