Mahlon

Tribe of Judah · H4248
Old Testament

Mahlon, the son of Elimelech and Naomi, married Ruth but died in Moab.

Mahlon was the elder son of Elimelech and Naomi of Bethlehem who emigrated to Moab during a famine and married the Moabite woman Ruth (Ruth 1:2–5; 4:9–10). He died in Moab along with his father and brother Chilion, leaving Ruth a widow who chose to return to Bethlehem with her mother-in-law. Boaz's redemption of Ruth included 'acquiring' Mahlon's widow and perpetuating his name in the inheritance—an act of kinsman-redeemer faithfulness that placed Ruth in the Davidic ancestral line (Ruth 4:10, 17).
