Mephibosheth
Mephibosheth, son of Saul and Rizpah, was given to the Gibeonites for execution.
Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul, dropped by his nurse when she fled at the news of Saul and Jonathan's deaths, leaving him lame in both feet (2 Samuel 4:4). David, honoring his covenant with Jonathan, sought out any remaining heirs of Saul and restored to Mephibosheth all of Saul's land, invited him to eat at the royal table always 'as one of the king's sons' (2 Samuel 9:1–13). During Absalom's revolt, his servant Ziba accused him of treachery, but when David returned Mephibosheth appeared disheveled, claiming he had been unable to accompany David due to Ziba's deception (2 Samuel 19:24–30). His story is often read as an illustration of unmerited grace—invited to the king's table despite his heritage as a potential political rival.
