Pethuel, the father of the prophet Joel, as mentioned in Jol.1.1.
Pethuel was the father of the prophet Joel, mentioned only in the opening verse of the book that bears his son's name: 'The word of the LORD that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel' (Joel 1:1). The naming of a prophet's father was a standard feature of prophetic book headings (cf. Isaiah 1:1; Jeremiah 1:1; Hosea 1:1). Nothing further is known about Pethuel—his tribe, location, and period all remain uncertain, reflecting the limited biographical information preserved for Joel himself.
