Teman was a grandson of Esau and is associated with an important Edomite clan known for its wisdom.
Teman was a grandson of Esau through Eliphaz and is listed as a chief among the descendants of Esau in Edom (Genesis 36:11, 15). The region or clan named after him, Teman, became synonymous with Edomite wisdom in the prophetic tradition — Eliphaz, one of Job's three friends, is identified as 'the Temanite' (Job 2:11). Several prophets, including Obadiah (v. 9), Jeremiah (49:7), and Habakkuk (3:3), associate Teman with Edomite strength and divine judgment.
