Zeresh

Old Testament

Zeresh, the wife of Haman, advised him to have Mordecai hanged on a gallows.

Zeresh was the wife of Haman the Agagite, the principal villain of the Book of Esther. She and Haman's advisors suggested that he build a gallows fifty cubits high on which to hang Mordecai (Esther 5:14), and when Haman was forced to publicly honor Mordecai instead, she and the wise men ominously warned that if Mordecai was of Jewish descent, Haman would surely fall before him (Esther 6:13). Her counsel proved prophetic: Haman was hanged on the very gallows prepared for Mordecai.
