Zeruiah

Zeruiah, David's sister (or half-sister) and the daughter of Jesse, was the mother of three of David's most prominent military commanders: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel (1 Samuel 26:6; 2 Samuel 2:18; 1 Chronicles 2:16). Unusually for biblical genealogy, her sons are consistently identified by their maternal rather than their paternal lineage, with her husband never named. This naming convention may indicate that she was of higher social standing than her husband, or that her connection to the house of David was the more significant marker of identity for her sons.
