Study Note

'Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion' — God's defiant counter-declaration against the conspiring nations of Psalm 2 places the coronation of the Davidic king as the divine answer to human rebellion. The New Testament applies this verse to the resurrection and exaltation of Jesus: Hebrews 1:5 quotes the following verse ('Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee') as fulfilled at Christ's enthronement after resurrection, and Acts 13:33 makes the same connection explicitly. Zion as the locus of divine kingship runs from 2 Samuel 5:7 through Revelation 14:1 — the mountain of God where the Lamb and his sealed company stand in final triumph.
