Monotheismus

The belief that there is only one true God, foundational to biblical faith. The Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4) declares, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.' Isaiah 44:6 affirms, 'I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.' The first commandment (Exodus 20:3) prohibits worshipping other gods. In the New Testament, Paul states, 'There is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus' (1 Timothy 2:5). Biblical monotheism distinguishes Israel from surrounding polytheistic cultures and remains the bedrock conviction of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
