New Jerusalem

4 Verse

The heavenly city described in Revelation 21-22 as the eternal dwelling place of God with his people. It descends from heaven 'prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband' (21:2). The city has twelve gates named after Israel's tribes and twelve foundations named after the apostles (21:12-14). Its dimensions are vast — 12,000 stadia per side (21:16). There is no temple because 'the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple' (21:22), no sun because God's glory illuminates it (21:23), and no tears, death, or pain (21:4). The river of the water of life flows through it, with the tree of life bearing fruit year-round (22:1-2).
