The climactic self-revelation in the Song of Moses — 'see now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand' — is among the most absolute statements of divine sovereignty in the Torah. The repeated 'I, even I' (ani ani hu) emphasizes the singularity of the divine person against all polytheistic alternatives. The paired opposites — kill/make alive, wound/heal — present God as the sovereign lord of all life and death, not as one power among many but as the only power ultimately operative in human history. The verse is central to Second Isaiah's monotheism (Isaiah 43:11-13) and to the New Testament's application of divine sovereignty to Christ ('I am the resurrection and the life,' John 11:25).
