Study Note

The 'mystery' hidden for ages but now revealed is defined in precise terms: the Gentiles are 'fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.' The three 'co-' compounds (fellow-heirs, co-body, co-partakers) in the Greek emphasize the radical equality of Jew and Gentile in the new community — not a two-tier system where Gentiles are attached to an essentially Jewish entity but full co-participants. Galatians 3:28 ('neither Jew nor Greek… all one in Christ Jesus') provides the declarative parallel, while Ephesians 3:6 provides the content: co-inheritance of a single promise. This mystery-revelation structure (hidden in ages past, now disclosed) drives Paul's theology of redemptive history in Romans 16:25-26 and Colossians 1:26-27.
