Study Note

Paul's synagogue declaration — 'through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: and by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses' — presents the Pauline gospel in its most condensed form. The contrast between justification through Christ and the inability of the Law to justify anticipates Galatians 2:16 and Romans 3:20-21 in miniature. The phrase 'all things' (pantōn) implies comprehensiveness — not partial but complete justification, without residual guilt requiring Levitical supplement. The citation of Psalm 2:7, Isaiah 55:3, and Psalm 16:10 in the preceding verses (Acts 13:33-37) shows that Paul's Pisidian Antioch sermon follows the same scriptural argument structure as Peter's Pentecost speech — both ground the resurrection in a christological reading of the Hebrew scriptures.
