Ahaziah

Old Testament

Ahaziah, son of Ahab, reigned as king of Israel for two years.

Ahaziah was the sixth king of Judah, son of Jehoram and Athaliah, reigning only one year around 841 BC. He continued the religious corruption introduced by the house of Ahab, through whose counsel he acted (2 Chronicles 22:3–4). His brief reign ended when Jehu, God's appointed agent of judgment against the Omride dynasty in Israel, killed him while he was visiting the wounded Israelite king Joram at Jezreel (2 Kings 9:27–28). His death left Judah briefly without a Davidic king, creating the power vacuum exploited by his mother Athaliah, who then attempted to exterminate the entire royal line (2 Kings 11:1).
