Ben-hadad

Old Testament

Ben-hadad I, king of Aram, made a treaty with Asa of Judah and attacked Israel during the reign of Baasha.

Ben-hadad I was a king of Aram-Damascus who made a treaty with King Asa of Judah against King Baasha of Israel (1 Kings 15:18–20). Asa sent him silver and gold from the temple treasury, and Ben-hadad sent his armies to attack the northern kingdom, compelling Baasha to abandon his fortification project at Ramah. His dynasty ruled Aram through multiple generations and remained a persistent threat to both Israel and Judah; the name 'Ben-hadad' ('son of Hadad') functioned almost as a royal title for successive Aramean kings.
