Ephod

Exodus & Wilderness > · H0641
Old Testament

Ephod son of Hanniel was appointed as the leader from the tribe of Manasseh to assist in dividing the land of Canaan.

Ephod was the father of Hanniel, the appointed representative of the tribe of Manasseh in the commission charged with distributing the land of Canaan among the tribes (Numbers 34:23). He is mentioned only in this official capacity, as the father of a tribal leader who served alongside Joshua and Eleazar in the great land allotment. His name is identical to the word for the priestly vestment, though the two are unrelated in the text.
