Jairus, a synagogue leader, sought Jesus to heal his dying daughter.

Jairus was a ruler of a synagogue who came to Jesus in desperate need of healing for his twelve-year-old daughter who lay dying (Mark 5:22–43; Luke 8:41–56; Matthew 9:18–26). While Jesus was on his way, word came that the girl had died. Jesus responded with the words 'Do not fear, only believe,' and proceeded to raise her from the dead, saying 'Talitha cumi' ('Little girl, arise'). The miracle of Jairus's daughter is paired in the Synoptic Gospels with the healing of the woman with the flow of blood, together displaying Jesus's power over both chronic illness and death itself.
