Jeriah

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Levi · H3404G
Old Testament

Jeriah was a Levite, the firstborn son of Hebron, and an ancestor of the Hebronites who served in the tabernacle during David's reign.

Jeriah was the firstborn son of Hebron and a Levite of the Kohathite family, listed in 1 Chronicles 23:19 and 24:23. He headed one of the four divisions of the Hebronite Levites who served in the temple during David's reign. In 1 Chronicles 26:31 a Jerijah the Hebronite is noted as the chief of the Hebronites in David's fortieth year, and David appointed these Levites as overseers in the Transjordanian tribes for the affairs of God and the king. Jeriah's family thus held a position of administrative and religious authority in the Davidic kingdom.
