Narcissus was likely a wealthy Christian in Rome with a household of believers.
Narcissus was a person of some social standing in Rome whose household included members who had become believers in Christ, greeted by Paul in his letter to the Romans (Romans 16:11). Paul's greeting to 'those in the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord' implies that Narcissus himself may not have been a Christian, while some of his household were. Some scholars have suggested an identification with a famous freedman of Emperor Claudius by that name, though this cannot be confirmed from the text alone.
