Nethaniah

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Levi · H5418H
Old Testament

Nethaniah was a musician in David's time, brother of Asharelah (or 'Asarelah').

Nethaniah was a son of Asaph the Levitical choir director and a brother of Zaccur, Joseph, and Asharelah, belonging to the first family of prophetic singers organized by David for temple worship (1 Chronicles 25:2, 12). He led the fifth division of the twenty-four musical courses assigned by lot. Asaph's family was particularly associated with prophetic music and composed several psalms attributed to Asaph in the Psalter. Nethaniah is distinct from the more prominent Nethaniah who was the father of Ishmael, Gedaliah's murderer (Jeremiah 41:1).
