Old Testament

The sister of Tahpenes, an Egyptian queen, was given in marriage to Hadad the Edomite by Pharaoh.

The sister of Tahpenes, the Egyptian queen, was given in marriage by Pharaoh to Hadad the Edomite, a royal refugee who had fled to Egypt after David's general Joab massacred the men of Edom (1 Kings 11:19–20). She bore Hadad a son named Genubath, who was weaned by Tahpenes herself and raised in Pharaoh's palace among Pharaoh's own sons. She is unnamed in the text and known only through this account of her marriage and the birth of her son, who represents a Edomite royal line reared within the Egyptian court.
