The refusal to release resentment against someone who has wronged you, warned against as spiritually destructive. Jesus taught, 'If you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins' (Matthew 6:15). The parable of the unmerciful servant (Matthew 18:21-35) illustrates the absurdity of receiving God's vast forgiveness while withholding forgiveness from others. Ephesians 4:32 commands, 'Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.' Colossians 3:13 adds, 'Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance.' Hebrews 12:15 warns that a 'bitter root' of unforgiveness can defile many.
