Peter's testimony before the council — 'by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead... is this man made whole' — fuses healing miracle, christological proclamation, and prophetic confrontation in a single sentence. The citation of Psalm 118:22 in verse 11 ('the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner') recycles the same text Jesus used in his temple controversy (Mark 12:10-11), establishing a chain of christological interpretation. The apostolic confidence in 'the name' — used eight times in Acts 3-4 — reflects the Jewish theology of the Name (shem) as the locus of divine power and presence, now explicitly relocated in Jesus of Nazareth. The scene models Luke's portrait of Spirit-empowered witness before hostile authorities (Luke 21:12-15), which throughout Acts is shown to actually advance rather than halt the gospel's progress.
