Daniel's vision of 'one like a son of man' coming with the clouds of heaven to receive dominion, glory, and a kingdom before the Ancient of Days is the most influential single passage in Jewish and early Christian apocalypticism. The 'one like a son of man' (bar enash) contrasts with the four beast-kingdoms of 7:1-8, presenting a human figure as the recipient of the worldwide dominion that the beasts had seized through violence. Jesus's self-designation as 'Son of Man' throughout the Gospels deliberately invokes this figure, and the phrase appears at key moments of vindication (Mark 14:62; Matthew 26:64) where the crucified one is identified as the cloud-rider before the divine throne. The verse generated the New Testament's christological category of the exalted Son of Man and remains central to Christian eschatology.
