Note d'étude

Study Note

'And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm' — the sea-calming miracle addresses the disciples' faith-deficit before demonstrating divine power over creation, making the miracle an acted parable about discipleship under pressure. The disciples' question — 'What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?' (verse 27) — functions as a Christological self-disclosure scene: only God rebukes the sea in the Hebrew Bible (Psalm 104:7; Nahum 1:4; Job 38:11), making the answer to their question implicit and momentous. The scene has served as a paradigm in Christian spirituality for divine presence amid crisis and the rebuke of paralyzing fear.
