Almodad

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Early Patriarch · H0486
Old Testament

Almodad was a son of Joktan and a descendant of Shem, listed in the genealogies of the nations.

Almodad was the firstborn son of Joktan and a descendant of Shem through Arphaxad and Eber, listed in the Table of Nations among the peoples of southern Arabia (Genesis 10:26; 1 Chronicles 1:20). The thirteen sons of Joktan are generally understood to represent the tribal groupings and city-states of the Arabian Peninsula. Almodad's name has been associated with various Arabic tribal or geographic designations, though the precise identification remains uncertain. As the eldest Joktanite, he heads the line of Semitic peoples who settled the regions east and south of Canaan.
