Ammishaddai

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Dan · H5996
Old Testament

Ammishaddai was the father of Ahiezer, the leader of the tribe of Dan during the wilderness journey.

Ammishaddai was the father of Ahiezer, the appointed leader of the tribe of Dan during Israel's wilderness census and encampment (Numbers 1:12; 2:25; 7:66–71; 10:25). Ahiezer enrolled 62,700 men from Dan for military service and presented the tribe's elaborate offering at the dedication of the tabernacle on the eleventh day. Dan camped on the north side of the tabernacle and formed the rear guard of the marching order. Ammishaddai's name, meaning 'people of the Almighty' or 'my kinsman is Shaddai,' reflects the archaic divine epithet El Shaddai associated with the patriarchal period.
